History

City & Metropolitan Building Society was established around 1946 and transferred its engagements to Stroud & Swindon Building Society in 1996. Prior to this, it had expanded through acquisitions, including Northern District Building Society in 1968, Ludgate Building Society in 1974, and Premier Permanent Building Society in 1980. It is now part of Coventry Building Society.
